No work, no money | How self-isolation from the COVID-19 pandemic punishes the poor in Indonesia! Check out our Action Map Here Man!

Hello Kawans, dear friends, ma’am. Dear sir and family,
Public health experts have been pushing the public to isolate themselves for at least 14 days to contain the rapid spread of the coronavirus. Research shows that self-isolation is very effective, especially if most cases of COVID-19 show no symptoms.

In common with health experts, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo suggested that people “stay, work and pray at home” for two weeks to prevent the spread of the highly contagious disease. Although these preventive measures proved effective, they did not take into account the fact that many poor and low-income people are unable to isolate themselves.

Isolating yourself for two weeks means that these people risk losing their only source of income.

As we know together, people who work in informal and casual sectors such as online drivers, shop assistants and kitchen workers don’t have the luxury of working from home because their work can’t be done far, they eat at night what they eat during the day. . One of them said to us a few days ago: “I can’t afford to isolate myself. I have to go to work,” he said. “No work means no money, and no money means no food for my children.”

IN 2019, PEOPLE WORKING IN THE INFORMAL SECTOR REACHED 57.2% OF INDONESIA’S WORKFORCE OR ABOUT 90 MILLION PEOPLE. JUST UNDER 30 MILLION PEOPLE LIVE BELOW THE POVERTY LINE, ABOUT 9% OF THE COUNTRY’S POPULATION.

Yayasan Kawan Baik has created a map detailing the action places of our organizations working to help as many people as possible as part of this major “Covid19 Community Care” action.

WE RECOMMEND YOU LOOK HERE!

The government is supposed to allocate a budget to provide primary health care for the poor, but it remains too low, too little if that happens! Meanwhile, the foundation helps you as best you can by offering simple services such as healthy foods (without MSG), vegetables, fruits, rice, sugar, tempeh, protein, vitamin complexes, dairy products, milk powder for children, hygienic. materials for young women and girls, masks, disinfectants, soaps, teaching materials and education for children.
Sometimes we add surprises and a little extra depending on our budget and what people offer us! And most importantly: Good mood, laughter, smiles, empathy, time, and lots of love!

Thank you so much for your amazing support, we still need you as we will continue this operation for at least the next 6 months. So, feel free to donate here Kawan’s!
