On September 24 and 25, 2021, Kawan Baik Indonesia participated in the “Sharing is Caring” activity organized by Sumba Volunteers which was held in Ngadu Ngala and Karera Districts. The journey takes 5.5 hours from the city of Waingapu by using a 4-wheeled vehicle with most of the roads being cobbled without asphalt.

The series of these activities are health services (examination, treatment, dental examination, minor surgery, counseling, distribution of masks, vitamins and milk). Educational activities (inspiration classes with learning and playing activities with Kakaha and Karera Elementary School students as well as distribution of stationery) and social service activities by distributing basic necessities to people in need.

This activity was also supported by friends from the Fair Future Foundation, PKBM Cahaya Anak Sumba, Gathering Hands, IKPML Waingapu, Charis Sumba.

In medical activities, many cases of lipomas (benign tumors) are found with various locations and sizes. For certain measures, this activity can be carried out, but in large sizes, you will get a referral for surgery at a public hospital.

Recorded in Ngadu Ngala District:

  • 32 patients and surgery 26 patients,
  • 112 general examination patients

Registered in Karera District:

  • 27 patients and surgery 23 patients,
  • 158 general examination patients

In educational activities at 2 elementary schools in Ngadadu ngala 120 students and SD Karera 140 students. Together with children in small classes, we do coloring activities, tell stories, and learn to brush our teeth properly. The result is unexpected because some children have very good imagination power. Here is a picture of a fish belonging to Bilqis from Class 1 SD Karera, and named Ikan Not Bakar, Edo from a grade 1 student at SD Ngadungala is also not inferior, a rabbit with a charming yellow color.
The existence of this activity is expected to help friends in Karera and Ngadu Ngala sub-districts to get health and education treatment. Thank you to all the good friends involved, providing a meaningful experience.
