Management of the pharmacy, of water supply, Covid-19 program, infrastructures, and day-to-day organisations.

Facing the crisis linked to the pandemic, the lack of water and vital resources, managing the organisational structure in order to optimise the social and medical assistance that we offer. The 24 hours that a day counts are not enough to do everything!

From our Base Camp here in East Sumba, the teams from our two twin foundations Fair Future and Kawan Baik Indonesia, are working very hard. Between two meetings with our logistics and medical teams, volunteers, and newcomers who deal with pharmacy and drug stock management, we have little time for ourselves.

Pandemic and control of the spread of the virus in the regions: First, the cases of infected patients are increasing when very little testing is done. From Fair Future and Kawan Baik Foundations, more than a thousand antigen tests are in use, but rationally. Those little stock of Antigen tests must indeed be “saved” because they are almost the only ones available for a region with more than 300,000 inhabitants.

Therefore, it will be one test per family and if it is positive, the whole family will be quarantined. Also, the symptoms linked to infection with the SARS-CoV-2 virus will be treated without having to use an Antigen test and the person is directly quarantined (Cough, fever, loss of taste, etc.). We must do so because the test resources (Antigen or PCR) are almost non-existent here. Therefore, we apply methods applied in times of war or serious shortages.

Medicines in Rumah Kambera: We sent a lot of medicine by truck and plane. We are now relatively well equipped but the quantities remain low. The pharmacy is operational and our doctors write a prescription for each patient. Note that we have established a system of collaboration such as: “Allo Doc” for the duration of the pandemic crisis here in eastern Indonesia.

Water issues in Rumah Kambera: The water crisis here is serious, you know that. The “Water Connections” program started a few months ago, leading us to build access points to clean water, but also to sanitation solutions for villages that have too little access to it.

On September 8, 2021, the construction of the 3rd central water point begins, right here at Rumah Kambera base camp. The water shortage crisis hits everyone, including our two organisations. From then on, it is the drilling of a well, the construction of toilets and showers that will be carried out within the very enclosure of our Base Camp.

This will serve our beneficiaries, the people around, our teams on site, the volunteers and the community garden of the foundation located here and will ensure the safety of all, as well as the hygiene of our socio-medical center.

We thank you all very much for your interest, benevolence, and always great support. Take good care of yourself and your loved ones!

Alex, from Sumba, East Indonesia, the September 6th, 2021 – Rumah Kambera Base Camp.

Note: Your feedback is extremely important to us and our teams in the field. They give us the courage, the strength, the motivation to help even more! Please let us know your thoughts. thanks in advance
