Project Release Date: 8 Jan 2024
Project Leader : Alyuprayitno Umbu Makaborang (Kawan Ino)
Project Type : This project is implemented by Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation on behalf of our partner who provided grant funding for this project.
Duration : 5 months

The Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation, together with the support of the Fair Future Foundation, donors, and partners, is committed to improving sanitation facilities at the Laindatang Elementary School. Located in Mbatakapidu Village, Kota Waingapu District, East Sumba Regency, this school has 77 students and 13 teachers and has served since 2009. Unfortunately, this school's sanitation and clean water facilities are still inadequate.

Contributions from donors and other supporters are highly expected to help create a healthy, safe, and comfortable learning environment for all children. This support will help us achieve our main goal of improving the quality of education and providing better access for students at the Laindatang Elementary School. Thank you for the full support of donors to make this vision a reality.

PROBLEM

Given its remote location far from clean water sources, Laindatang Hamlet faces significant priority challenges

Lack of Reliable and Sustainable Clean Water Access
The residents of Laindatang Hamlet struggle with limited access to a reliable and sustainable clean water supply

Insufficient Clean Water Storage Facilities
Currently, there are no facilities available to store clean water in sufficient capacity to meet the community’s general needs.

Lack of Electricity for Water Pumps
Laindatang Hamlet does not yet have access to electricity to power water pumps.

Our Action

Phase III of the project focuses on well drilling as a key step in providing a reliable and sustainable clean water source. Supporting activities in this phase include:

  • Conducting surveys to determine the optimal location
  • Well Drilling
  • Installation of solar-powered pumps
  • Construction of ferrocement water tanks
  • Distribution of water to residents
  • Building a pump house, installing wells, and securing the pump area with fencing
  • Establishing a Water Center as a hub for water distribution and management.

GOALS – EXPECTED RESULT

Here are some outcomes/goals that can be achieved from the challenges faced by the residents of Dusun Laindatang:

Availability of Sustainable Clean Water Access
Goal: Develop infrastructure to ensure the residents of Dusun Laindatang have reliable access to adequate clean water for daily needs, including household and sanitation purposes.

Provision of Adequate Water Storage Systems
Goal: Build clean water storage facilities with sufficient capacity to meet the long-term water needs of the community, reducing dependency on limited or seasonal water sources.

Installation of Energy Sources to Power Water Pumps
Goal: Enhance energy access in Dusun Laindatang by providing a power source to operate water pumps, either through solar energy or other renewable energy systems, to support efficient clean water distribution.
