Through training, awareness campaigns, and direct field interventions, Kawan Baik Indonesia and partners, together with the people of East Sumba, strive to break the chain of malaria transmission for a healthier generation.

PROBLEM

East Sumba continues to face high malaria incidence, particularly in Waingapu and Umalulu.

Low community awareness of malaria prevention.

Limited number of trained laboratory analysts.

Environmental conditions are favorable for malaria vector breeding.

 

Our Action

Public Awareness Campaigns: Household education, billboards, and village health sessions.

Capacity Building: Training 28 laboratory analysts with certified WHO mentors.

Direct Prevention Measures: Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) in target households.

Mosquito Net Distribution: Distribution of insecticide-treated bed nets to vulnerable families.

 

Our Goals

Increased community knowledge and awareness of malaria prevention.

28 local laboratory analysts with improved skills in malaria diagnostics.

Reduction of malaria cases in project-targeted areas.

Tangible contribution to the national Malaria Elimination Program.

 

 TIMELINE

August 2025: Baseline survey, logistics preparation.

September 2025: Public awareness campaigns, laboratory analyst training, IRS, and bed net distribution.

October 2025: Monitoring and evaluation.
