Project Release Date: 1 Aug 2024
Project Leader : Erwin Umbu Dangu Ela
Project Type : This project is implemented by Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation on behalf of our partner who provided grant funding for this project.
Duration : 14 months
BACKGROUND
Most rural areas in East Sumba face significant limitations in accessing medical care, presenting a serious challenge for the community. The long distances and difficult terrain to healthcare facilities often hinder residents from receiving the necessary medical services. Furthermore, the scarcity of resources such as medicines and medical support equipment exacerbates the situation, limiting basic medical care.
Additionally, the lack of education and knowledge about the importance of health and the implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) in the community further obstructs efforts to improve quality of life. This ignorance contributes to a high rate of diseases that could be prevented with simple measures.
On the other hand, support from the nearest Puskesmas is often limited, particularly in handling emergency cases that require prompt intervention and follow-up. These limitations create significant gaps in the healthcare system in the area, where many cases are either poorly managed or receive inadequate attention.
These conditions underscore the need for interventions focused on improving access to and quality of medical care in rural areas and educating the community about health and PHBS to build a healthier and more self-reliant society." "We will conduct training to enhance the skills and knowledge of 20 non-medical personnel in rural areas regarding first aid and basic medical care. This training is designed to empower them to provide initial medical care in hard-to-reach areas.
OUR ACTION
We will conduct training aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of 20 non-medical personnel in rural areas regarding first aid and basic medical care. This training is designed to empower them to provide initial medical care in hard-to-reach areas.
In addition to the training, we will provide medicines and basic medical supplies to the participants, ensuring they have the necessary resources to support healthcare in their communities. This effort will be accompanied by a campaign to increase awareness and implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS) in the community, to prevent diseases and create a healthier environment.
We will also establish partnerships with the nearest Puskesmas to ensure that trained non-medical personnel receive support, and to guarantee effective readiness and coordination in reporting and managing health cases in the field.
Kawan Sehat Agents
Kawan Sehat agents are non-medical personnel trained to provide basic medical care in rural areas. They are selected based on their active involvement and ability to disseminate health knowledge. In addition to training modules and health campaign tools, each agent is equipped with a first aid kit containing basic medicines to treat minor medical conditions. Agents can examine patients and provide medication according to their acquired skills. All examinations are inputted through the Kawan Sehat application and evaluated by professional medical personnel, who provide feedback and recommendations, including referrals if necessary.
GOALS – EXPECTED RESULT
This project aims to empower 20 non-medical personnel in rural areas with the skills and knowledge needed for first aid and basic medical care. Through intensive training, they will be equipped to provide effective initial care in their communities, particularly in areas difficult to reach by professional medical personnel.
To support them, we will also provide medicines and basic medical supplies, ensuring they have the resources necessary to deliver quality service to their communities. In addition, we will launch a campaign to raise community awareness about the importance of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS), promoting the adoption of good health practices in daily life.
Collaboration with the nearest Puskesmas is also a crucial part of this project to ensure sustained support and effective coordination in handling and reporting health cases in the field. Thus, the project focuses not only on enhancing individual skills but also on strengthening the community-level healthcare system.
