Duration : 5 months

The Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation, together with the support of the Fair Future Foundation, donors, and partners, is committed to improving sanitation facilities at the Lain Datang Elementary School. Located in Mbatakapidu Village, Kota Waingapu District, East Sumba Regency, this school has 77 students and 13 teachers and has been serving since 2009. Unfortunately, this school’s sanitation and clean water facilities are still inadequate.

Contributions from donors and other supporters are highly expected to help create a healthy, safe, and comfortable learning environment for all children. This support will help us achieve our main goal of improving the quality of education and providing better access for students at the Lain Datang Elementary School. Thank you for the full support of donors to make this vision a reality.

PROBLEM

The Laindatang State Elementary School faces various serious challenges, ranging from limited access to reliable sources of clean water throughout the year and inadequate sanitation facilities to the unavailability of hand washing facilities. This influences the best possible fulfillment of physical, spiritual, and social needs for students and the school community. Knowledge about healthy habits among students needs to be improved, along with inadequate health conditions and poor hygiene among some students. In overcoming this problem, a comprehensive approach is required that includes infrastructure development, educational programs, and the involvement of parents and the community to create a healthy and conducive learning environment for all at Lain Datang Elementary School.

OUR ACTION

In our efforts with our partners, we want to build a commitment to creating an environment that supports the principles of cleanliness and provides sustainable access to clean water. These measures have a positive impact on health and the environment around the school.

The Laindatang State Elementary School is an educational initiative to increase students’ understanding of personal hygiene and healthy habits. Involving students, teachers, and parents in a healthy school campaign, we designed a series of health posters focused on Handwashing, Balanced Nutrition, and the Kawan Sehat Book. Health workers from the Waingapu City Health Center and volunteers participated as facilitators, ensuring accurate and up-to-date information delivery. This campaign will create an informative learning environment and support sustainable health practices among students.

The four-week program will also provide balanced and nutritious school lunches, access to filtered rainwater, a regular exercise routine, and self-care practices. The goal is to instill a healthy lifestyle for overall health development. The Medical Team from the Waingapu Community Health Center will be involved in this program to check the general condition of the students, making it an integrated step towards sustainable student welfare.

GOALS – EXPECTED RESULT

Provision of facilities and infrastructure includes the provision of three sets of clean water source installations, including rainwater harvesters, filtration systems, piping, and Ferro-cement Water Tanks with a capacity of 15,000 liters in the school area, Principal, and Teacher’s Room.

Provision of four healthy toilet cubicles by building and health standards, with criteria that do not spread hazardous materials, are easy to clean and prevent disease vectors.

The initiative to provide hand washing stations in each classroom area, water filling stations for jerry cans, and a closed system for waste from hand washing stations reflects a commitment to creating a clean, healthy, and sustainable school environment with a positive impact on health and the environment around Laindatang State Elementary School.

The educational campaign at Laindatang State Elementary School aims to increase students’ understanding of personal hygiene and healthy habits through health posters, including education on Hand Washing, Balanced Nutrition, and the Kawan Sehat Book. Health workers from the Waingapu City Health Center and volunteers will be facilitators to ensure the delivery of accurate information.

The four-week program provides nutritious lunches for 77 students, access to filtered rainwater, exercise routines, and self-care practices. This initiative aims to instill healthy habits for life. The Waingapu Community Health Center Medical Team will check the students’ general health.
