Mendekatkan Layanan Kesehatan kepada Mereka yang Paling Membutuhkan

In the remote village of Madutolung village, Kambata Bundung Village, Kahaungu Eti District, East Sumba, access to healthcare remains a daily challenge. For many families, reaching the nearest health centre means travelling long distances over difficult roads. As a result, illnesses often go untreated until they become severe, while preventable diseases continue to affect the community.

Earlier this year, Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation expanded its Primary Medical Care (PMC) – Kawan Sehat Program to Madutolung village by training local Community Health Agents. Equipped with essential first-aid skills, health education materials, and basic medicines, these volunteers immediately became a trusted source of care within their own community.

The response was overwhelming. Within just ten days, every medicine supplied during the training had been distributed to patients seeking help. This was a clear reminder that the community's need for accessible healthcare is far greater than the resources currently available.

To address this urgent need, Kawan Baik Indonesia Foundation and Fair Future Foundation organized a Community Medical Outreach on 1 August 2026, coinciding with Swiss National Day. The outreach brought doctors, nurses, volunteers, and Community Health Agents together to deliver free medical consultations, health screenings, essential medicines, and practical health education directly to the village.

Activities include:

• Free medical examinations and consultations by doctors and nurses.
• Provision of essential medicines based on medical assessment.
• Health education on PHBS, malaria, HIV/AIDS, and communicable disease prevention.
• Support and practical capacity-building for local Kawan Sehat Community Health Agents.

More than 100 residents benefited from the outreach, receiving medical care that many would otherwise have struggled to access. At the same time, families learned about Clean and Healthy Living Behaviours (PHBS), disease prevention, malaria awareness, HIV/AIDS awareness, and the importance of seeking medical care early.

However, this project is about more than a single day of healthcare services. Every outreach strengthens the capacity of local Community Health Agents, empowering them to continue supporting their neighbours long after the medical team has returned home. It is a sustainable, community-led approach that helps build healthier, more resilient villages.

Healthcare should never depend on geography. Together with Fair Future Foundation, we are ensuring that even the most remote communities in East Sumba have access to essential healthcare, knowledge, and hope for a healthier future.

Together, we are bringing healthcare closer to the people who need it most.

Target Beneficiary

100 residents of Kampung Madutolung, including children, adults, women, and vulnerable community members with limited access to healthcare.
