PROBLEM
East Sumba continues to face limited access to primary healthcare services, a high burden of communicable diseases, and low adoption of clean and healthy living behaviors (PHBS). Geographic barriers, limited healthcare personnel, and low health literacy contribute to persistent service gaps, particularly in remote rural areas.
Our Action
During this period, the Primary Medical Care (PMC) program was implemented through a series of integrated activities, including:
- Basic Medical Care Refresher Training
Capacity strengthening of 20 Kawan Sehat Agents through practical sessions, case discussions, and reinforcement of core competencies such as anamnesis, basic examination, and referral decision-making. - Reported Health Cases
Documentation and monitoring of 790 health cases through a digital application and communication channels, supporting data-driven interventions. - Monitoring and Evaluation
Joint field visits with Community Health Centers (Puskesmas) to ensure service quality, strengthen referral systems, and improve coordination. - Module Enhancement
Revision and refinement of training materials based on field experiences and medical supervision to ensure accuracy and contextual relevance. - Collaboration with Partners
Strengthened partnerships with the District Health Office, Puskesmas, and partner organizations to support malaria elimination and community health services. - Distribution of Medicines and Supplies
Provision of essential medical supplies to agents, supported by monitoring systems to ensure proper and accountable use. - Implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behaviors (PHBS)
Community and school-based health education through practical activities such as handwashing, toothbrushing, and nutrition awareness. - Public Communication and Documentation
Storytelling initiatives such as “A Day in My Life” to increase public awareness and support for community-based healthcare efforts.
The Expected Impact
- Strengthen agents’ capacity to deliver safe and appropriate primary healthcare
